Wings magazine,Volume 5, Number 2, February 1931. Literary Guild of America. This is a rare, little seen item that promotes the 1931 Literary Guild of America edition of Frank Dobie’s classic book on treasure hunting, Coronado’s Children. This is quite likely one of the earliest recognitions of Dobie(and Texas writers)on the national scene. The majority of the 26 page pamphlet deals with Dobie and Coronado’s Children. Included are a profile of Dobie(with a great picture of him as a youngish man, proudly with pipe in his mouth); Dobie’s essay “How I Became a Hunter of Legends”; an essay on Coronado’s Children by famed critic Carl Van Doreen; and the cowboy ballad “Tonight My Heart’s in Texas”. Mr. Van Doreen notes that he believes no book issued by a regional press had previously been selected for national distribution by one of the book clubs. The regular trade edition of Coronado’s Children had been issued by The Southwest Press of Dallas—cost $1! Scattered throughout the pamphlet are black and white illustrative material, including a painting by Alexander Hogue. The pamphlet is in excellent condition, with minor folding. An excellent Dobie item, as well as an important marker with regard to The emergence of Texas literati on the national scene. Shipped only to locations in the United States. Shipped with USPS Media Mail. Shipping free of charge.
