The Seiko 5 Sports line dates back to 1968, but it brilliantly reemerged in 2019. Seiko 5 Sports watches are a celebration of Street Fighter V, the latest edition of the world-famous Player VS Player fighting game. Seiko has produced six timepieces inspired by the game’s central characters: Blanka, Chun-Li, Guile, Ken, Ryu, and Zangief. Special details specific to this Blanka model include a swirling guilloche-patterned dial in celebration of Blanka’s famed rolling attack, as well as arrow-shaped indexes as a nod to his sharp teeth. Case back features the controller command for Blanka’s “Electric Thunder” move. In addition, the image of a “Blanka Chan” doll is printed upon the underside of the fabric strap. This is a limited-edition watch, with only 9,999 pieces produced. The rugged PVD-coated stainless steel case measures 42.5 mm in diameter, 13.38 mm in height, and rests upon a vibrant green and orange fabric strap with a PVD-coated stainless steel tang buckle. Other case features include a unidirectionally rotating bezel emblazoned with the electrical pattern resulting from Blanka’s famous “Electric Thunder” move, an exhibition case back, a Hardlex crystal, a 100 m / 10 atm water resistance, and a push / pull winding crown, uniquely found at 4 o’clock. As a self-winding automatic watch, it is driven by the 4R26 caliber, which delivers a 41-hour power reserve and has 24 jewels. Its gorgeous swirling green guilloche-patterned dial sports Lumibrite hands and applied hour markers for easy viewing in low light, a center seconds hand, and a day and date window at 3 o’clock.
