To maximize the chances your package will arrive before Christmas, please order BEFORE November 24 Lewis and Clark Trail route marker. Up for sale today is this Lewis and Clark Trail sign. Made to the exact state standard used in the 1940s to the 1970s when the trail was first marked. The design is based on a 1955 Irvin Shope drawing. The route was finalized by 1978 and marked with the modern rectangle signs as a National Historic Trail. this early variant depicts Sacajawea pointing out the three forks of the Missouri River in Montana. An original of these is very rare to find scrapped; this variant has long since disappeared off the highways, to be replaced with the more modern rectangular version seen in North and South Dakota, Montana, Washington, Idaho, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Illinois. The sign is flat printed with completely accurate layout and fonts. It weighs about 11 pounds, 7 ounces, and is the correct size for the 1950s and later: 24 by 24 inches. A 16 inch version also exists, and may be found in my other auctions. This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close! I can of course make these signs with any route number of your choice, and not just this style, but older and newer ones, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from the era. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A. "Life doesn't happen along the interstates. It's against the law." - Charles Kuralt Figure about 13 pounds for shipping, packed with care and mailed from zip code 61833. Thank you for your purchase!
