This inexpensive dovetail gauge is designed so you will be able to mark the desired slope ratio of the dovetail for the type of wood, i.e. hardwood/softwood you are using in your project. This dovetail gauge is laser cut right here in the USA from 20g stainless steel and incorporates the most common dovetail slope ratios of 1:5, 1:6, 1:7 & 1:8. All precision laser engraved permanently into the gauge. This gauge will come in the "FLAT" to save on shipping costs. The purchaser/user will need to bend the two inner "TABS". These tabs are very easily bent into position first using just your fingers then with any pair of pliers you have to finish the bends. Relief grooves are laser cut into the tabs at their base and are specifically engineered to make the bend easy and precise. The lower angles, (using the 1:7 or 1:8 ratios), are used for joining hardwoods, while higher angles (using the 1:6 or 1:5 ratios) are recommended for softwoods. The Slope ratio of 1:8 for example is a point 1” in width from the center of the dovetail rising to the length of 8 inches long having a 7.13° slope angle. See diagram in pictures above.
